Over the long time of the game’s existence, World of Warcraft boost itself has become somewhat overloaded, because many things that used to be called differently than boosting are now called that way. Learn about different types of boosting that we have, and give them at least a rough estimate of acceptability: which gain is good, which is bad, which is neutral, which is a little suspicious, and so on.

Term evolution

It is difficult to be sure about the origin of the term “boosting” in the MMO genre, since it probably refers to the real thing. As far as one can assume, this term was inherited for MMOs from a well-known and disrespected practice, which is mainly the result of people trying to use their ratings in competitive games such as League of Legends. And these games, in turn, inherited this term from chess.

Boosting in MMO now

It is noteworthy that basically all the boosts in MMO are sold either for real money or for in-game currency, which, sometimes (depending on the specific game), can be exchanged for some value. Buying for real money, according to the creators of the games, is definitely unacceptable; for virtual ones, it is formally legal, but usually from the point of view of “moral appearance” it is not recommended.

Let’s just go through the list of common types of boosting:

  • Accelerated character levelling with the help of various tricks that include the rapid destruction of enemies with minimal risk, but without the participation of an enhanced player.
  • Improving ratings in some form of competitive play, either by having more experienced players in PvE content, or by having another team play a match in PvP content. The constant problem of World of Warcraft with increasing M+ keys and open sale of boosts belongs to the first category; basically any structured PvP format has similar charges in the second case.
  • Guiding players through content they otherwise cannot traverse for achievements, any unlocks, or even loot that can be obtained upon receipt.

You can still give many examples of boosting, but the essence is clear. The goal of any boosting is most often just to buy a solution to a problem.
